Hi Everyone I hade my TD 1 week ago and evrything has gone great .. My stoma scar kills because of all the scar tissue and adhesions removed.. MY BM's have already slowed down to 5-10 a day .. I feel so blessed and thankful and once again I thank all of the people here for the info and support..
Just a couple of questions When will I be able to pass gas standing up rather than sitting on the toilet, I am scared of a accident. What can i do to keep up what looks like a successful TD so far Anthony Thanks Anthony Step 1of 2 -3/23/07 Step 2 of 2 -05/21/07 |

Anthony, I'm very glad to hear that you are doing so well. Regarding your questions, I'm four months post takedown and still unable to pass gas standing. There is another thread on the site that addresses this issue. I believe someone (it might have been Jan) said it has to do with the shape of the pouch and how it traps the gas.
I haven't really done anything different since my TD and all goes well. Just slowly experment with different foods and see how you react. With the exception of nuts and popcorn I've eaten a normal diet and really had no issue. Some foods do result in more BM and more BB but nothing that I haven't been able to deal with. Continued good luck. Kevin |

Anthony, I had my procedures in 1991 (16 years ago) and I still find it iffy to pass gas standing.
I find the need to pass gas has declined over the years (subject to food groups). Hey, I'm alive and very active for a 66 year old f*rt. (excuse the pun).. tad pole |

no problems here. I think you just need to experiment with things and know the "feelings".
I eat just about anything, but after 2 years have to still watch the spicey and raw stuff. My kids claim that gas with the bag was interesting , but they like it much better now that I can fart like a regular person. |

Still can't truly 'let one rip' but sometimes a little bit of gas will sneak out without any thing following.
Most times I just wait till I go to the bathroom and let it all out, better safe than sorry I am a year post takedown and I can eat just about anything in moderation, ate a bit too much trail mix the other day the only thing that I can't eat is milk and cream soups, they make me terribly sick and I end up the bathroom for hours. If you are concerned about pouchitis or just general pouch maintaince, you could take some pro-biotics. ** Christine ** UC dx Oct 2003; Step 1 - 10/8/2005; TakeDown - 05/19/2006; pouchitis dx Dec 2006 The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Hey Anthony,
So glad you're doing well! I can pass wind without accident sometimes, but I NEVER try unless I'm at home! You never know... So I'd say give it time and only ever experiment if you're home so accidents are not a crisis. I'm nearly 5 months post TD. "Today I'm 51 % sweetheart and 49 % dragon*. So don't push it. hey Anthony,
Congrats on doing so well. I am 8 months post take down and have been able to pass wind sitting down and i haven;t figured out about standing and passing gas yet. I am still getting use to the different feelings. I do take more chances at home then when out! good luck! |
