I'm 18 days post-takedown, and something has just started today. I'll get this sensation of pressure against the bottom part of my tailbone inside me. This is immediately followed by a strong pressure against the wall of the anus (I have to try hard to make sure nothing comes out). I have no idea what could be causing this. My surgeon will be scheduling a CT for later in the week, but he doubts it will show anything
I'm really desperate here. I absolutely can't stay out of the bathroom when the urgency hits. Has anyone experienced anything similar? It seems to happen more when I stand up 24 yrs old Step 1: March 8, 2007 Step 2: March 13, 2008 Step 3: June 2008 |

Sounds like what I have, though mine started a week out of surgery. I believe it is gas. Sometimes I can fart and it will be ok. I also noticed that when it gets bad and you feel like you can barely (if at all) keep it in, its time to go, but otherwise for me its ok. It stops for about 15-30 minutes after a BM but then starts up again, and increases in frequency and pain/difficulty to control. I've tried gas x, beano, and a super version of gas x but none work for me

Jay, when I get that pressure/pain with urgency , for me it usually means the start of pouchitis. After the pressure I start with leakage, although sometimes the leakage starts first....either way, its pouchitis for me. Hope all goes well with your test and they can find out quickly for you.

I'm not using the washroom much since I started taking the metamucil. Could it still be pouchitis if I'm only using the washroom every 3-4 hours? It seems to be a bit better today, but still noticeable

Jay11,
I had the same problems 1 week out of surgery. I could not even walk 20 steps before the pressure and pain got so bad I needed to find a bathroom and sit down for awhile. At first they said I had gone into spasm and sent me for therapy, then they thought it may be pouchitis, Cipro and Flaygl seemed to do the trick. Mine may have been a leak. Make sure you have them check you for leaks, as well as pouchitis. I hope you get an answer soon. Hope you feel better soon, Carolyn |

Well, not always. I have alot of risk factors for pouchitis and mine started pretty much right away. They told me pretty much to expect pouchitis , I always have at least 4 different antibiotics on hand. Although if I keep up my probiotics it does stay in remission for awhile.

I had the same thing. For me, it was also gas. Gas can make you feel like you've got to drop a load the size of Manhattan RIGHT THERE.
But definitely get everything checked out just in case! |

Tailbone pressure then sudden urgency
