After struggling for almost two years with "nerve pain" from nerves caught in scar tissue, I ended up in the hospital a couple of weeks ago. I was vomiting constantly and had severe abdominal pain. A couple of X-rays and a CT scan showed a bowel blockage, so surgery it was. They didn't have to cut the bowel, but removed several adhesions from below my stoma scar. Am home now.

Questions: does this have anything to do at all with the pouchitis I've also been fighting for a year? Could these adhesions be the source of all the "nerve pain" I've been having? Why am I -- two weeks out -- having pretty sharp pain suddenly by the stoma scar, after several days of feeling stronger?

Last but not least, is the very helpful (!!!) woman I met in the hospital (who had just had her 7th surgery for removal of adhesions) correct that I am going to deal with this for the rest of my life?

I could use some good news here....

Thanks,
VirLuc

Well, your body makes adhesions pretty much after any surgery, especially any kind of gut or lower abdominal surgeries. Some adhesions can cause pain and others nobody even knows about until the surgeon goes in on a different surgery. I have had adhesions taken down for the same reason as you did. They thought they saw some incarcerated bowel but it turned out to be adhesions. The sharp pain you are feeling now may be caused by adhesion forming again or it could be part of the healing process. Things pull and tug as they heal. I have always found, for myself, that once I get home there tend to be days where the pain is almost as bad or worse than what it was in the hospital, again, part of the healing process. I have had adhesions removed from 2 out of the 4 quadrants and those two I have significantly less pain in those areas. One thing to ask your surgeon is if he used a barrier film like Seprafilm which is supposed to help keep adhesions at bay(still controversial in that dept).
As far as a connection between pouchitis and adhesions??? I have no idea...
I do still suffer from chronic pain in my lower and mid left side. I wish I could get a surgeon to take down the ones on my left side...I guess I'll have to wait until I get another obstruction or some other disaster before I will see relief....
Getting up and doing stretching and deep tissue message may be helpful...The consensus on that is also undecided on that...
