This question popped into my head today as i was telling my mom my friend got tickets for a concert next week.
Before all my surgeries i used to go to concerts all the time, usually i liked being up front, which comes along with pushing and shoving. Right now i have an ileo and the jpouch has been made, i am only 3 1/2 weeks out of surgery so i definately wont be up front, but after everything is healed and i have takedown, can i cause damage to the pouch?? Thanks Ashley |

Hmmm - lets see..... Nope - you can't cause any damage by concert going. We go to about 2 dozen (or more) concerts a year. Inside, outside, on the lawn, in the seats, in front, in back. James Taylor this weekend, Willie Nelson the week after, and Eric Clapton in a couple of weeks. Don't even be thinking that you can't go to concerts - you just go and enjoy.

I was at U2 this past December, 4 months after takedown with no problems. I wasn't up front but danced and sang in the stands with no problem. The only thing I did was not eat any supper before the concert to cut down the number of trips to the bathroom.

I saw U2 on the first anniversary of my takedown. I wasn't in general admission (I wish that I had been) but I had a blast. I guess it kind of depends who you're seeing too. I can't imagine that a Barbara Striesand (or similar) concert would get kind of rowdy but I could see that something like a Sum 41 concert where people are slam dancing or crowd surfing might do ( I have a vivid recollection of being accidentally kicked in the face by a crowd surfer at a Matthew Good concert).
I hope you have a great time. Who are you seeing? |

You are certainly going to need some time before you start jumping into the pit.
I play a nice amount of ice hockey and have just now started playing after all in one J-Pouch surgery on Aug. 1st, 2006. Although it is a non-checking league, you most certainly experience your share of bumps and bruises. I feel good, but I'm almost six months out. Why not just chill in the back of the concert with a few brews and your friends for the time being? All the best, Brian |

The only thing that would stop me going to a concert is bathroom issues. I have the same issues with nightclubs - the risk of disgusting overcrowded toilets, no locks on the door and no toilet paper.

you should be fine to go, i would just suggest that if its a smaller venue to maybe hang out by the bar area where its less crowded and people aren't jamming out so hardcore as opposed to hopping right into the pit... not quite the same experience but that's what i do and it's just as fun
