i have had my pouch for over 6 years- losing track. i have trouble digesting fruits, veggies, nuts, spicy foods. so the pouch did not make diet easier.
then last july diagnosed as pre diabetic and began glucophage/metformin(not sure of spelling) and that does a number on my stomach. i also take cinnamon capsules and chromium picolinate.
good new my numbers ( i test 2x a day are usually under 100 and i lost 45 pounds)

questions since startind metformin- a lot of times- not always- but the stool- if i can call it that, but what appears in the bowel is mucus it is yello/lite brown. sometines it seems like just mucus and no stool. where is this coming from and sometimes it has a weird order.
i am getting a colonoscopy and endoscope on 4.28
but i wonder what it going on in my body
any ideas would be appreciated

also- an other question- i seem to go to the bathroom more at night- more diareaha.
it is getting annoying not to mention it hurts

How do you still have your colon if you have a pouch? You mentioned you are getting a colonoscopy on 4-28.

I think she might really be getting a sigmoidoscopy (flex sig). I've seen others call it a colonoscopy too.

Diarrhea and other GI symptoms are common with induction of metformin. This should improve over time as your body acclimates to the drug. You should get your answers after your endoscopies about the mucuous. It is possible that you just really cannot tolerate the metformin.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

jan-
thanks for replying to all of us. i have been on the metformin since 7.07 my sugar levels are great but the side affects are hard. i have been told that its something i have to put up with for now. but i never thought to ask if there is a different med for the sugar.
but my gastro and endocrinologist thought that metformin was the best for me
maybe after the scope and i tell him that the mucus is bad he can think of something else
thanks again

I, too, am on Metformin. For awhile I tried cinnamon capsules and they were the culprit for me....not the Metformin. As soon as I stopped the cinnamon....my gut began smiling again. You might want to try giving it up and seeing if it makes a difference.
