Sorry this is a bit of topic, but thought you guys would understand. Yesterday, we lost our beloved dog Murphy to a spleenic mass that bled out. It was totally unexpected. We were out on our morning walk and everything was normal, then all of the sudden he couldn't go anymore and had to lay down. We got him to the vet right away, but they couldn't save him. We only had him for about 3 years, he was a rescue from a local shelter, but he was the sweetest dog you could imagine. When I got sick and had my surguries he could tell I wasn't feeling well, it was the only time he wouldn't pull on his leash. He always so cuddly and affectionate, and really helped me get through those lonely and painful days after surguries. The nurses told me to think of a happy place going in to surgury, laying with Murph and my girlfriend Shauna was my happy place and he will be forever missed.

I am so sorry for your loss.
As a pet lover I know how you will grieve over your loss. There are no words to console you. Murphy is in a good place and would want you to remember all the love he gave you and he will always remember the home you gave him and how much you loved him too. I too have shed tears for your loss. |

Sorry for the loss. I also had my dog get me through my surgeries. All my life I wanted a dog my neighbor had one that I pretty much called my own but I never had one. Kind of a guilt gift I guess you could say but I finially got a dog shortly after my second surgery and she's gotten me through 3 more surgeries, as you said she's very active but when I was sick she tended to lay around with me all day.

Aww, that's so sad Matt
It's never a good time to let them go, they are just like family and stay in your heart for a lifetime. Sometimes I think, since pets don't live as long as humans, they are just making way for another pet that is needy, for you to take in and love. Take care. You have my sympathies. |

So sorry to hear the news!
When I had surgery, my cat was a lifesaver. She actually made it fun to be at home. She was always so affectionate, playful and sweet. It is amazing how she understood that I was not well. Shortly I had surgery, she was diagnosed with nasal cancer. As I was slowly getting healthier, her health was slowly deteriorating. A few months later when I moved back to school, she passed away. Those last few months of her life were special as I made sure to treat her extra special. At the same time she made me feel better while staying home recovering from surgery. You sure gave your dog a great three years by rescuing him at the animal shelter. On a positive note, he did not suffer for long, which is a nice way to go. Take Care |

Oh I'm so sorry
I do know how you feel - I'm still mourning our 14-year old cat, Baggy, who we had to have put down two weeks ago. I cried when I read your post - but then I've just being "talking" to Shell about Baggy and her cat, Nermal, who'd also being deteriorating, so you've caught me off-guard here! Of course we grieve for our pets who get us through surgery and many other trials in our lives. You gave Murphy a happy life after he had a bad start. He was a loved and lucky dog, just as we tell ourselves baggy was a loved and lucky cat. It'll hurt for a while, but as the days pass you'll gradually be able to think about him without always welling up. To hell with being off-topic - I reackon you're forgiven! And I for one send you **BIG** hugs. "Today I'm 51 % sweetheart and 49 % dragon*. So don't push it. (*Percentages subject to change without notice.)" |

Dear Matt,
Hugs to you and Shauna over the loss of Murph. He sounds like a real sweet guy. I'm a dog person, too, and I know the heartache you're having now. They're family, and we miss them when we lose them. I hope you take comfort from the good wishes of all of us out here. Diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis in 1986. First-step of 2-step j-pouch surgery January 9, 2006. Takedown June 16, 2008. |

Matt, I truely am sorry for your loss. The pet lovers here understand that a pet is not just a pet but part of your family. My screen name MRPICKLES is in tribute to my cat that died young and that I miss dearly. Not sure if anyone noticed my funny screen name but, it is named for one of my favorite cats EVER. Poor MrPickles I wish he could come and sit on my lap and keep me awake with his purr when I need sleep so badly(having been up all night in the loo). Scott Mc
