I almost swallowed a piece of gum the other day on accident and I kind of stopped it in my throat and thought that that might give me a blockage so I coughed it up and spit it out...making a big scene at my friend's house because of the nasty noises I was making, but that was definitely better than a potential blockage! haha so does anyone have any info on this?
17 year old female diagnosed with UC in May 2004.. Medications: NONE :-) Step 1 of a 3-step surgery was May 1st...no hurry to get the 2nd and 3rd done though...I'm enjoying life way too much right now! |

Short answer is probably not. Your stomach acids should breakdown the gum pretty quickly. But any undigested food as the potential of getting stuck. For me, I eat everything and don’t really give it a 2nd thought. I love corm, peas, peanuts, grapes. I’ve only had one minor blockage; and I wouldn’t really call it a blockage; in the 7 years of living with my j-pouch and it cleared itself after day.

This has come up before and it appears no one has ever had a blockage from accidentally (or on-purpose) swallowed gum.
