Where can I fill my rx for Tincture of Opium? Is it available in retail pharmacies like Walmart? That's who I use now, but they always have a hard time getting meds for me.

I have no answer to your question, just a question! What is tincture of opium used for?

Most pharmacies don't keep it in stock because it is seldom prescribed anymore, but they can special order it.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Try looking for a local compounding pharmacy. Most towns/cities have at least one or two of these and they are more likely to carry it/be able to make it. My husband had to search and was finally able to find a place and they make it there for him.

When my son was on this we had to get it at the pharmacy in the hospital where he had his surgeries, which is nearly 2 hours away. I tried everywhere else and came up empty handed.

I had to get mine at a local compounding pharmacy...I filled it twice, and then the pharmacist said he wouldn't fill it again because it was too expensive??? I have insurance so I'm not sure what he was talking about, but luckily I haven't needed to fill it again.

Tincture of Opium has been a lifesaver for my problematic pouch. It takes away the "gotta go again!" feeling. I've been getting it easily through my insurance companies mail order pharmacy for years at $15 per month supply.

By now, I assume that were able to get your tincture of opium. I've been using it for the past three months and I have no problem getting it at my local drugstore. They never keep it in stock but I generally get it two days after I drop off the scipt.

I hope that it works as well for you. It has helped me a lot.

Good Luck!

When chronic pouchitis is the problem and antibiotics or antidiarrheal's are not enough to relieve the constant feeling of pressure and urge to go, Opium Tincture works as an antispasmodic to give relief for a few hours.
