For my one bout of pouchitis so far, I was diagnosed both cipro and flagyl as follows:
cipro 500 mg - take one tab by mouth twice daily (20 tabs)
flagyl 250mg - take one tab by mouth four times daily (40 tabs)
They were for ten days, but I was constipated after only a few days then it all evened out. I don't know what others have been prescribed.

My doc has just placed me on a maintenance dose of 250 mg flagyl daily for recurrent (but not extremely severe) pouchitis, and pouch ulcersations, along with 2 doses of VSL 3 daily. This is supposed to continue until my next scoping in 6 months. Does this sound too long to be on "maintenance" of flagyl? Will my body grow resistant to it should I severely need it in the future? Anyone been prescibed such a course? Thoughts, Jan or others? Thanks, Hattie

I tend to find I need about 3x400mg. I think 3x250mg is a bit light.

I got a prescription on 500 mg Flagyl 3x daily for one week and then 2x daily for one week. My doc also said that the course sometimes needs to be prolonged a bit.
