Hi - am hoping for some input as to a great doc for a J-Pouch surgery -- near SF or Davis CA? Parameters: Age 80, tried everything up through Remicade but only Prednisone works... SIGH. Hard to believe all this could happen in ONLY THREE YEARS! Alternatively, has anyone found any antibiotics that will kill the bug causing UC yet? Thank you for your help!

Can't help you with a surgeon. I had mine done at Kaiser. A lot of people rave about UCSF. But, even though they think that the primary trigger for UC is infectious, there are multiple triggers and can be any number of ordinary bacteria or viruses that abound. You also need to have the genetic suceptibility that causes an ordinary infection to progress to full blown UC. The cure for that? Go back in time and change your ancestors or stop the mutation that occurred spontaneously in your body. At least you are in good company with many people here who have fallen into the same lousy plight as you. I guess you can at least feel lucky that you lived so long before manifesting this. I was 15 when I developed it, my son 20, my husband 45. Even though you may think that they have not made any strides, a generation ago all they had was prednisone and sulfasalazine. Failing that, there was only end ileostomy. So, no cure, but at least lots of advances in treatment. Sorry we have to welcome you to our club, but there are some great people here. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
