Katey,

I take ursodiol for PSC (bile duct scaring and inflamation). I was told that it thins the bile which I would think helps reduce the possibilty of forming stones. I had my gallbladder removed years ago so I don't know if they give positive results for disolving stones but, I did want to tell you that it doesn't cause diarhea.

Katey,

I take urso for PSC, just as Tony does. It is a bile acid and one of it's uses is to help dissolve gallstones. A college friend of my was taking Urso after a procedure called lithotripsy which breaks the stone up into smaller pieces. Between the procedure and the URSO, she did very well and I don't think she's had any more issues.

As for the diarrhea, it is listed as a possible side effect of taking Urso. I did notice a significant increase in my frequency when I started taking it - but I am on a very high dose as a part of a clinical trial for my PSC. It is not very common to have this side effect.

I hope that it works out for you!

Thanks guys. I think I might give it a try, the hard part will be the low fat diet that should go along with it.

Katey,
My son had gallstones after cancer chemo treatment. They wanted to take the gallblooder out but the nurse suggested apple juice,,lots of it,,so he drank it as main beverage for 3 months and dissolved all stones.I understand its the malic acid in apples that does the trick. It can be bought in pill forms,,i think 1000 mg is needed a day.you could try to research this yourself as an alternative.
