Hello,
I've had a working J-Pouch for 1.5 years. This past January I suffered my first bout of pouchitis. My doc put me on Flagyl and it made me crazy. Finally we tried Cipro and it worked; however, the pouchitis must not have fully gone away and the symptoms came back 1.5 months later. This time I knew immediately what I was dealing with and got on the Flagyl much quicker and it fully got rid of the pouchitis. Prior to the Pouchitis I had formed bowel movements and once pouchitis hit they turned into very loose liquidy stools and this led to nighttime leakage several times per week. Now that my pouchitis has gone away, I have turned to a very strict regimen in terms of my daily eating habits and medicine. Eating 1) Eat a well balanced breakfast 2) Eat a larger lunch than dinner 3) Eat enough for dinner that you're not hungry before bed, but not so much that you have to get up a ton while asleep. Meds 1) Right when you wake up take 2 Lomotil and 1 Ammodium. In addition to that, take an apple pectin tablet. Also, I have been using a liquid multi-vitamin b/c it supposedly absorbs better in your body when you don't have a colon. Lastly, I take a Flax, Borax & Fish Oil capsule that gives me all my Omega 3. After I take all that, I then eat the well balanced breakfast as mentioned above. 2) Before lunch, take 2 Ammodium and 1 Lomotil along with another Flax, Borax & Fish Oil Capsule. Eat larger than dinner lunch. 3) Before dinner take 2 Lomotil and 1 Ammodium. In addition to that, take another apple pectin tablet. Lastly, I also take another Flax, Borax & Fish Oil capsule. 4) About 1 hour before bed, I eat one Metamucil wafer (not one pack! Just one of the two wafers in the pack. I've found if I eat both wafers, it's too hard to pass the stool the next day and I end up pushing too hard which isn't healthy). After the wafer drink a full glass of water to wash it down. The above has helped me to have almost "normal" looking bowel movements. In addition to that, I only go 3-4 times in a day and sleep the night through. All in all, the above "****tail" doesn't seem like it could hurt - especially if you're experiencing more than average bowel movements and nighttime leakage like I was before I tried all of this. Please leave your comments and suggestions as they are definitely welcomed. ~Blake |

sorry about the ****tail. I didn't realize this was a no-no. Anyway, it was only meant to be used as a cooler way to say mixture of medicine and food - like the drink at a bar. Guess it wasn't so cool after all....

No need to apologize. The darn language filter has no brain and cannot tell the context of a word, so just blindly censors words on its list. You'd have to call it a coc-ktail to get it in. But, we still know what you meant.
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

Thanks Blake, for your eating and supplement plan. Always good to know what works for others.

Blake, I also eat a large lunch and smaller dinner and it works well for me too.
