20-30 times?? that must be exhausting. sorry to hear that. I had that back in my awful UC days when I was pretty much reduced to staying at home and it was rough.

Do you think you have a quality surgeon/hospital on your case? You have tried all the immodiums/peptos? have you tried lomotil I hope? immodiums/peptos didn't work for me but lomotil works great for me. (that little magic white pill is amazing.....)

And you have tried all the diet modification options? breakfasts of pancakes and/or eggs and/or potatoes are all great for me. They seem to take a while to pass thru and then pass pretty smoothly.

hope you get a break soon...........

Sounds very much like the fentanyl patch, another opiate transdermal delivery system. I think you are not getting responses because this is not an orthodox method for most of us. There have been a number of folks here with both rectal pain and high frequency. Ideally, better to deal with the cause, rather than just try to treat the symptom. I suppose they have ruled out pouchitis, presacral abscess, adhesions, etc?

I'm thinking maybe I had Chron's all along and shouldn't have been a candidate for the J-Pouch. I just took the camera pill on Monday along with a pouchoscopy so I'll see what the doc says at my appointment on Feb 1. We already tried the antibiotics to no avail.

Unfortunately, sometimes that happens, as Crohn's is not easy to rule out, and we don't find out until after the fact. Surgery itself can trigger small bowel Crohn's that was not apparent before. Good luck with the camera pill. Hope it gives you some answers.

Sorry to hear about that. I am using a compound cream with 2% nitroglycerine that works well for my anal pain. Also, nothing makes me feel better than a very hot bath a couple times a day. Wish I could help more! I have found that food allergies play a signifficant role in inflamation if that is the problem. It's amazing how one little element (gluten, casein, dairy etc.) can cause a whole lot of digestive issues. It might be worth checking out.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,
Rich

Butrans seems to be the new drug du jour among pain management doctors... It was recommended for me for the same thing you are experiencing. After extensive research I decided against it.

The drug in the patch Buprenorphine is a schedule III narcotic opiate. It works slightly different than regular opiates as it is a partial agonist/antagonist, meaning it attaches itself to different pain receptors and can actually block the pain relieving effects of a "normal" opiate. It is a drug used for treating opiate addiction as well as being used as pain medication.

The problem I had with it was that a) it is a patch and you can't control dosing (I don't need pain management around the clock) and b) having a constant level of narcotic in one's system makes you more sucseptible to withdrawl once you come off of it, and c) the side effects I read about just didn't seem worth the risk.

I have researched Butrans to tey to find any studies or patient experiences of using it for abdominal issues and can find nothing. Everything I have read has been related to treatment for addiction or people with muscular skeletal pain.

If you google Butrans and/or Buprenorphine you will find tons of information online.

Hope you feel better soon!

Alex

Shouldn't they look at your small intestine before they decide to give you the J-Pouch? I'm wondering how the doctors knew I was a candidate for it without even seeing all of my small intestine... I know they see the end of end with regular colonoscopies...
