Hi all,
another question. I have been experiencing serious sharp cramps and pain at the inner base of my rectum. I believe its gas. when I go to sleep and roll on my side the pressure and pain begins, when i sit a certain way, it also flares. I spoke to my surgeon who advised that I try gas-x and that if it did not get better he wants to see me. He states that I might need to be widened. I guess you all know what that means. This scares me for I am so affraid of damaging my pouch and whether a digital exam or a scope or any forign object, I am petrified. has anyone else suffered from gas pains or have had to have been widened? Thanks again for the help. |

Sherlock,
Not uncommon at all to have gas pain in your rectum - especially if you are suffering from butt burn or fissures. The term you are looking for that describes narrowing at the rectal connection (anastomosis) is 'stricture.' And there are quite a few people who have had in-office dilations of their strictures. Some people even self-dilate at home to keep things open. The in-office dilation can be quite painful. Some folks will only allow their docs to do it under sedation - but you need to set that up with your doctor ahead of time. Do a 'Find' on the blue menu and search on 'dilation' or 'stricture.' Actually, there's a link in the General Discussion right now about strictures and self-dilation:
