Will antibiotics like, cipro, Flagyl, and Levaquin cancel out the VSL#3 that I take if taking them all at the same time? Likewise, does the VSL#3 cancel out the antibiotics effectiveness?

The VSL seemed to be working well for me. Took away some extreme butt burn issues though still have some, but not near as bad. Also seemed to reduce my frequency until recently I have been going a lot more again. Usually 7-15 times a day maybe more. I take Vicodin at night when it gets real bad and do not feel like being up all night on the toilet.

Do I have pouchitis? I have the frequency and urgency, but not the flu or fever symptoms. I do find some blood in my stools which I read is a symptom. Of course I have had all of these symptoms since my TD which was 10-6-06.

I think its the other way around. The antibiotics will cancel out the probiotics. I read here to take them at opposite times of the antibiotics.

Frequency and urgency is my first sign of pouchitis.

Have a fabulous day!

I got diffeent answers from different people. My GI suggested VSL#3 and told me it didn't matter when I took it. But other people on this site tell me different. They seem to think you need to take it at least 2 hrs after your antibiotic. So the way I see it is I take it 2 or so hrs. later because it's no big deal to me and I don't have to worry either way.
But what I did find out was even though it's an over the counter med my insurance will cover it as long as I get a script from my DR., so call and check they may pay.

I think it's best to take the probiotics about 4 hours either side of taking your antibiotics.

Good luck, hope the combination helps and that you feel better soon.

No easy trick to take them 4 hours after antibiotic when antibiotic is 3x per day. I can't figure out when to take what.
