It's been a while since I've posted because things were going well. I had j-pouch surgery on in February 2006 and in April had my final take down surgery along with bowel obstruction surgery. I only had my ostomy bag for 6-7 weeks. The next 6-7 months were rough, but finally in late 2007 I was doing okay. Lots of bathroom visits and supplements and still on steroids. In late 2007 I started experiencing pain in my left lower area all the time coinciding with a pulling (like little hands inside tugging from the inside) on and off. This happened before during and after ovulation. In December 2007 I finally was able to get off the steroids with the help of a wonderful doctor and I returned to my colorectal surgeon for a pouchoscopy and an answer as to this weird pain. Blood tests, ct scans, ultrasounds were all ordered and a gynecological and plastic surgeon specialist were seen. Their concensus was ovarian entrapment syndrome. My left fallopian tube was engorged with sub-cutaneous fluid and it was overflowing into a herniated shaped also filled with excess fluid. There were fybroid tumors and cysts all along the left ovary fallopian tube and my uterus was grossly enlarged. My pouch flap sits directly on top of these left organs. Because I was newly off the steroids, it was decided that I would have an interventional radiologist drain the fallopian tube and surrounding excess mass via ct scan. That surgery was easy - and I had it at the end of March, 2008. Recovery was easy until 12 days went by and I had the worst pain in the left lower quadrant moving to my rectal floor. I called my colorectal surgeon and was taking percoset around the clock until she could get me in (about 4 days). I thought I might have a fissure or fistula in addition to the left quadrant pain. She said I did and surgery was scheduled for 4 days later. An anascopy was ordered at the same time and when I woke up my doctor told me the pouch looked great but the fistula had to be taken care of another way other than she described before I went under anesthesia. I have a string - for up to a month and if my body does not push the string out, I have to go back into surgery to have it removed and finish the fistulotomy. After this surgery I started bleeding from my fallopian tube. The doctor has ordered films and we are meeting with the specialists again. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information on ovarian entrapment syndrome. I am told that I will need at least a partial hysterectomy but until they open me up and look at the uterus to find out why it is enlarged, they don't know for sure. The surgeon has said she will need to do a "modification" of the pouch. I do not want another pouch made and have to go through months of diarrhea again. Has anyone else had this problem. I could use some information. They are talking about removing the organs, modifying the pouch and having a plastic surgeon "fix" the tight incisions to alleviate the pulling, pain in the left quadrant area. If they have to do a full hysterectomy, I don't know where they'll put the pouch.
