I recently underwent the horrible event of having an unpassable kidney stone. It initially resembled the feeling of a blockage. I tried waiting it out but it didn't stop and got worse and worse. I came to find out that a kidney stone can cause your insides to tense up and cause an interuption in BM's or a blockage. I've had this same pain in my left side, below the ribcage, a couple of times in the last couple of months and always thought it was a blockage. Previously it had always passed within a half hour or so. I've come to question if it was kidney stones all along. This past time, I couldn't take it and went to the ER for a CT scan and I was shocked to find out it was a kidney stone lodged between my kidney and my bladder. The pain got unbearable. I hope this never happens again.
People with a past history of IBD have a stronger likelihood of developing kidney stones and I wonder with a j-pouch if the likelihood increases even more. From what I was told, kidney stones develop due to an overabundance or a lack of certain minerals. This sounds like a problem us without colons would have even more. Come to found out that I have quite a few small kidney stones and one monster kidney stone that I might electively get pulverized before it may drop and cause me severe problems.
