Don't know if I'm spelling that right. But I wasn't aware of this type of doc and wondered if anybody has ever seen one? Don't they deal with the immune system? It came up in a conversation with a friend and got me thinking. Anybody have opinions or experiences with this type of doc?

Hi Laurie -

I see am immunologist - to be specific, a neuroimmunologist. I have MS as well as UC so the neurologist I see specializes in how the immune system interacts with the central nervous system. It may not be a bad idea to see an immunologist if you are thinking that route. Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. are all autoimmune diseases - among several others - my neuro told me once there are 45 documented autoimmune diseases. Unfortunately, once you have one autoimmune disease your likely of "developing" another is higher (I don't know the exact percentage). For me personally, I was dx with MS in 4/05 and then UC in 9/06. The colitis didn't surprise me - how quickly it came on did. Frowner

Good Luck!

My son's pediatric pulmonologist is also certified in immunology--so that's another direction it can go. He sees a lot of cystic fibrosis patients.
