Hello there! Long time no talk! It's nice to see so many of the same people are here Smiler

Everything has been wonderful with the pouch for almost year and a half now. Couldn't have asked for better results actually. I don't really pay attention to the actual number of times I go per day. Maybe 3 or 4? I have no urgency or incontinence what-so-ever. I eat what I want, when I want and I just feel "normal" most of the time.

My only issue is this... I tend to get gassy, sometimes painfully gassy. I can handle that, but the problem is that most of the time when I go, I expel alot of air and it's EXTREMELY noisy.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to cut down on the noise or the gas in the first place?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Alex

I think noise is inevitable. You can try gas-ex or beano or those type of products, but I've heard they have limited effect.

You will probably just have to adapt and accept that this is the way of things with a J pouch.

Hi Alex - nice to see you! How's Robby doing? I saw on your other post you have a new boy and he's nice to you and the children. He'd better be!

Anyway, someone recently posted that a nurse told him not to mix liquids and foods together. To wait about 30 minutes after a meal before drinking. He said it worked for him. I don't know if it would work for you but it's a simple one to try.

i absolutely LOVE the jpouch and love my life now but this is probably the one problem i face is the loud gas when expelling. its awfully embarrassing. there must be some way to minimize it. if you lie on ur side you can fart out the gas, but then again this can only be done at home and is pretty pointless cuz who cares if you make loud noise at home. the issue is finding a way to go in public without noise. boy would that make life easier.

and yea i know, someone is about to reply here and say "dont worry about what people think." well, i do.

I was just thinking about that this morning. Sometimes I just don't empty all the way until I can get some privacy. I don't know if this is good for me or not and sometimes it does not work that way.

Hi guys & gals! Thanks for all the advice! And it is soooooo nice to hear from some familiar peopleSmiler

I guess I'll just have to have "the talk" with my BF and explain that with my plumbing, I'm gonna make noise! He knows about the surgeries, the pouch, etc., but I have been good about hiding the noise. Maybe we can just make a joke out of it or something. I need to do something though cuz we're spending more and more time together and it's getting harder and harder to hold it in without having painful gas build up!

Robby is doing pretty well. The tumor affected his growth and hormones, etc. Still trying to get him to grow and not be so moody, etc. His father just left for Afghanistan, and he's Special Forces so it's pretty scary. Robby's having a lil trouble dealing with all of this, but overall he's ok.

Things just didn't work with my ex hubby but we're at a point where we get along fine (have to put our issues aside for the children's sake). Especially Kylie cuz she's so young.

This year has been quite turbulent, but we all survived! Nice to be back here!

I hate colitis: So glad to hear everything is going well for you!!! I believe when we last chatted on here you hadn't had surgery yet and you were really nervous about it all (as most of us are before surgery). I knew you'd do well cuz you always had such a positive attitudeSmiler

Thanks again!
Alex

Noise is the name of the game. Joking about it must be the answer. If I try to hold it in, I'm miserable. Letting it RIP feels soooooo good. It is my duct cleaner-outer!

hahaha I used to care SO MUCH about that ridiculous noise, but after living with it for 6 years...I kind of got over it. It took me 2 years to go to the bathroom on the same floor as my parents. It was very hard to begin dating, because I always knew one day it would come up that well, I fart up a storm. The absolute best way...is to be blunt. My boyfriend loves me for the fact that I can just joke about it, because the way my digestive system works just amazes him.

But really, I know its a huge deal now...but after a while, you kind of realize that well, its your body and it's probably not going to change. I'm not going to lie- when I go to the bathroom at school, I have to flush the toilet every time I try. But I'm guessing that by the time I'm 30, I'll be ripping it in a public bathroom because really, life is too short to worry about people saying "OMG SOMEONE IS HAVING A BODILY FUNCTION."
