I have never been a heavy or moderate water drinker. When i had UC - J pouch surgery I was always told drink water, water, water. I was told after the removal of my colon I would never have regular bms if i never drank a ton of water. For 4 years i got used to watery bowel movements. My trainer told me to start drinking 4 litres of water, so i drink Almost close to a gallon a day which is close to 5 litres. It has been almost 3 weeks since.
The last time I had a Regular BM i was in India in 2009, my summer trip which ended in a disaster. But when i saw my BM that day i wanted to take a pic of it because i had a gut feeling i wouldnt be seeing something so beautiful (haha) again.
Now drinking this water has made my BMs full and normal looking. Another thing is my BUM hurts!!! Its been over 3 years since i pushed anything solid out that it hurts to walk after. But I am happy i finally get to see a normal bm everyday.
Thought I would share.

I heard that having a colon absorbs the crap and thickens the stool with the water already stored in the colon. Now that we dont have a colon and our small intestine doing twice the work in terms of collecting waste and collecting nutrients, vitamins, protein; we need an extra supply of water to absorb the waste thus making solid stool.
