Hi everyone!

I'm so sorry I have been away so long but I have been working a ton. The only reason that I am back is because I finally had my td.

I was also a patient of Dr. Fazio's he was scheduled to my surgery but his own situation kept it from happening on 1/30 so Dr. Geisler an associate of his did it.

They said everything looked good but it took over a week for the pouch to start working and now that it is wow! I'm looking for ways to slow down now.

Besides still having some pain I feel ok. I feel good enough to sit at the computer which after first surgery did not feel like doing for over a month.

I'll try to keep everyone informed of my progress as I am one of those who went a long time between 1st surgery and second. (approx. 17 months)

One other problem, which has always been a concern, I seem to have trouble with rectal spasams. I am currently taking Canasa for it as it has helped in pass but with frequency tough to keep in. Also it would seem if not for the spasms I would have great control but it hurts really bad to hold right now in the rectal area.

That is also my only problem and the only thing that worked are antibiotics, it was hit and miss with some of them (my doc didn't go so far to prescribe cipro or flagyl). Actually, what REALLY worked was amoxicillan on more than one occasion for dental work!

What I have is recurrent pouchitis and cuffitis and my only symptoms are rectal spasms, the gas from the pouchitis aggravates my cuffitis (what can I say, they're a team!). I think you should notice a difference on the meds in days really, so if the spasms persist ask your doc for a course of antibiotics, should nip this in the bud within a week or two.

Hi,

I thought about pouchitis but I had been having pain since step one. Everyone in my doctor's office always told me it was normal. When I finally came to have my td in july of last year my surgeon was alarmed at my pain and did a procedure where he looked at everything. (pouch, rectum etc.) He felt everything looked fine. That procedure led him to shoot me with a long lasting local and steroids. Then I did a course of steroids for three weeks. That procedure was done in the or. When I woke up I knew what women must feel like after they've beem to the doctor, I never felt that kind of pain in my hips. I thought they must have had my legs spread to my shoulders.
After a few months they put me on canasa suppositories and all this aided the pain greatly.
I talked to my surgeon and he told me to use immodium to slow myself down. Also he feels that the spasams are normal and that I should turn the corner soon. I hope so. I feel like if not for the pain I could be working on stretching the bag because I have been near an accident and feel that I can hold it if the pain in my rectum was not so great.
The doctor also said that he looked at my pouch before the td and found no problems so he's ruling out pouchitis at this point.

Dear C,

Glad to hear from you. Continue to get well, okay?

I'm anxious to hear how you do, because I want everyone to do well, but I'm also one who has waited a while to have takedown. By the time I do it this summer, it will have been over 2 years between my step 1 and step 2.

Diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis in 1986.
First-step of 2-step j-pouch surgery January 9, 2006.
