1. I have been trying to run to get some exercise - is dehydration a factor in that I can run much more with less fatigue in the evening vs rolling out of bed and taking off with maybe just a small drink of water before hand? I used to have no problems with a morning run.
2. Also it seems if I eat really really late at night before bed, I don't have to get up to use the bathroom, if I eat at a normal time and maybe have a small snack or nothing before bed, I am one or two times. Can anyone explain this? Thanks. Lora |

you definitely need to stay hydrated a lot more than usual...
also, not a big deal about your BMs with bedtime..Just find out what works for you..everyone is different on this...just learn your body... Tyler |

If you eat really late before bed, it takes hours for the food to pass, thats why you are not up....i think thats why anyway. If you eat earlier they food has just finished digesting and is ready to pass when its time for bed

Hydration issues are fairly individual, plus things do improve over time and get back closer to a normal pattern for you.
It depends a lot on what you are eating before bed too. If it is something fatty (such as cheese or ice cream) it tends to slow digestion (barring any dairy intolerances). Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

I notice a big difference if I get up in the morning and go walk nine holes of golf as opposed to doing it later in the day. I barely made it one morning. It does make sense though because in the morning you haven't had a couple meals for energy and also haven't drank enough water yet.

Lora, very interesting post - and my experiences are similar to yours.
I have lots of energy in the evening and sometimes have to stop myself from over-exercising. I also eat late (about an hour before bedtime) and then sleep all night. I usually eat a small serve of rice or pasta (cooked with olive oil, herbs and cheese - delicious). |

Hi Lora -
With regards to hydration: maintaining a constant optimal level is the best approach - in other words, make sure that you are always well hydrated, with fluid intake spread across the entire day. This is especially important for j-pouchers, with increased fluid output and decreased absorption issues. I find that this approach lets me head out for a run /ride, etc. in the morning or any time of day (whenever my schedule / body says it's a good time to go!) without dehydration issues. Be sure to take water or fluid with you and take a small sip every 20 minutes or so. I too find that a late night snack (like Jan mentioned, something fatty works best for me - cheese toast!), a good purge on the porcelain, and I can sleep for 7-9 hours uninterrupted. Good luck!
