I had first step surgery for a jpouch over a week ago. Had stitches that look like staples for my incision area. They are annoying and hurt at times when I accidentally nudge them when in bed. Im looking forward to having them removed on Wednesday. Does it hurt when they take them out?

It can sting a little, but in the grand scheme of things, it's basically nothing.

Hi there -
So, do you have staples? I was confused by your post as you refered to your stitches... In any case, I had about 20 staples in my incision, and I just knew it was going to be the worst thing ever to have them removed. So, needless to say, I got myself all worked up. The entire thing was over in less than a minute, and if anything, it just feels like small pinches. Not really that bad at all. So, I think you'll be fine. For the record, I still can't touch my incision scar - it gives me the boo-boo-jeebies. And I always think it's going to split open. But, I'm a freak about things like that. Lisa |

I got myself all worked up and did not need to. The staple removal is no big deal. It happens very fast. Smile, it will go okay.

I agree, I was like there was no way this isn't going to hurt.
My doc said this might hurt a little, but it won't hurt me at all. But removal was so quick and painless. Best of luck! "You must be the change you wish to see in this world." -Gandhi UC dx: 1/01 Step 1: 10/5/06 Step 2: 12/19/06 Adhesion Surgery: 8/9/07 Expecting a little boy 1/8/09! |

I had 38 staples in my abdomen and truthfully, I would rather have staples pulled out than sit in the dentist chair and have my teeth cleaned! Having staples removed is a breeze.

My staples were infected, and some had ripped into the skin because I caught a nasty cough at hospital. So taking them out wasn't pleasant, but still not as bad as you might think. You know, step 1 was the worst thing I've ever gone through (beating childbirth even) so staples were a minor discomfort in comparison. And like you say, they can be uncomfortable while they're there. Don't worry - you'll be fine

I had 25 staples in total. It stings a little when they are being removed. It's a nice feeling to finally have them gone.

I had like 40 staples for the last 2 surgeries...it was miserable. But then again, I was 10 and 11 years old. I had them take out like 3 at a time, and it was over in all of maybe 20 seconds. It deffinitely hurts, but I'm kind of a sissy so I'm not sure. Try taking some ibuprofen or something before. Well, I'd take vicodin, but thats just me =]

Whatever the temporary (slight)discomfort is while having those staples removed......the results are so well worth the few minutes of irritation! Whew! Feels so great when they're out! Enjoy the results!
