For me it is a day by day thing. I don't use Metamucil unless I feel I need it. Then I welcome it! I don't routinely use it or anything else. If I find I'm having a rough day "eliminating" I take a dose of Metamucil. I love the powder dissolved in ice cold water. Even a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal helps level things out. My GI doc summed it up for me. Metamucil is a regulator. So, I use it when I need "regulating"! Best wishes.

It's completely up to you. I eat a wafer with every meal - but that's just me. Keeps stool pretty well formed, but moving. I would think you would want to take some if you eat any constipating foods: beef, pork, etc.

You would probably know if you needed to take it. If you're doing just fine by eating regular ol' food then there's no need to rock the fiber boat! kathy
