I was a smoker, I gave up, I got UC, got a j pouch, and now smoke occasionally again (I know!) Not sure if smoking helps prevent the onset of Crohns too..?

Question:
Relationship between UC / Crohn's and smoking: my doctor said no-one who smokes gets UC, but that starting again would not help. What is your situation?

Choices:
I got UC and had never smoked
I got UC after I gave up smoking
I got UC while still a smoker
I got Crohn's and had never smoked
I got Crohn's after I gave up smoking
I got Crohn's while still a smoker
