I just saw a post in another forum about a happy gent who just found out his wife pregnant (congrats to them!) and it reminded of this incident when I was at my UC worst: I had been in the H for almost a month while Prednisone, Immuran, Remicade, and Cyclosporin failed to get my 'flare-up' under control, and I was BEGGING for surgery, but the damn medicine team would not give me over to the surgeons. They are so competitive! The attending was the worst. He tried to tell me that there were MAJOR fertility risks if I opted for surgery (not even really true). But I was in so much pain and so frustrated that I told him that wasn't really top concern of mine (thinking I needed to get healthy first, and figure out family later) and he said, "Oh, well, I guess I didn't ask you if you are a lesbian." Excuse me? I don't know which notion is more ridiculous--that not wanting kids makes me a lesbian, or that being a lesbian removes the possibility of children from the discussion. I don't happen to be gay, but I was offended as if I was. What a dork!

The most hilarious part about that story is that after 2 weeks of sitting in the H with me, by mom had gone home and my DAD was sitting with me...he was NOT comfortable with that discussion!!
But then a couple of weeks later my dad called to say he saw an episode of Scrubs about the great UC Medicine v. Surgery debate...anyone seen it?
