First, let me welcome you to my ongoing (onglowing?) hopefully communal rant on steroids. I have come up with a few new terms to describe some of the obstacles that we face and thought that i'd share. Please add your favorites.

1. The Prednizone - (Please hum the theme to the twilight zone while reading this) - a place of mixed time and dimension, where size is altered as are normal, well adjusted people. One should be afraid, yes very afraid, when entering the (da-dum) PredniZone.

2. Prednicrap or Prednish!t - the actual medication in pill form.

3. Prednipot - the lovely tummy that you get after failing miserably at an attempt to restrict yourself from eating too much food. altho really there just wasn't quite enough food, because if you're not going to finish that piece of pie, can i have the last 10 bites?

4. Prednipuss - that lovely moonface (what?!?) that makes people think that you've gained 30-40 pounds all above the neck. (Neck? what necK? you can find your neck?)

5. __________ - The crazy buzz of energy that you get that prevents you from doing anything intellectually challenging (like reading or working) but seems to be just a catch-all for energy of cleaning and playing thousands of games of computer solitaire. Pretty much compulsively.

6. Prednibitch - self-explanatory, non?

7. Preninsomnia - once again, seems to be speak for itself.

8. I'm picking up good Predni-vibrations - a state when your insides vibrate at a low level frequency all by themselves. too bad they can't harness the energy.

9. Prednibabble (aka Put a cork in it!) - Help! I'm on steroids and I can't shut up!

10. Prenema - The joy of receiving your medication up the butt. In theory, there are less side-effects with this form of dispensing. In reality, NOT NOT NOT!!! The prenema effects are the same as though encountered after swallowing lots of chalky, bad-tasting pills.

I need help here, people!!! add your thoughts, quips, anecdotes, definitions, and perhaps share a little sanity....

Sorry, can't help ya here, my only attempt on prednisone made me full blown phychotic...can't say I remember much, too which I am grateful.I'm sure the nurses will NEVER forget...I do seem to recall that I would not lay on the hospital bed and insisted on sleeping on the floor...
May God bless all of you who have endured this strange torture.

Predniblast . . . the urge to shoot the next person who asks what's wrong . . . Mad

Prednipocket . . . the item of food which you have found best disguises the disgusting aftertaste of the little pill in helping you get it down the throat . . . Razzer

How about this one? When I was on 40 mg per day for about a year constantly before my colectomy, I would get these great hot flashes about twelve hours after I took my dose. My ears would get so red and hot I thought I could melt steel on them, or at least fry eggs (picture that one in your head).

Dont know if others (esp other gents) had this daily occurence but to all I give you:

the "Predni-flash".

Have a great one,

Mark

Prednidead...for the dead areas in my daughter's bones Mad
Avascular Necrosis in multiple joint areas after a 4 month treatment...please make sure you have suspicious joint pain evaluated by an MRI for early detection (it does not show up on regular x-ray until the bones start to break down and fracture...there are treatment options available if caught in the early stages.

oops...I guess I should have tried to make you laugh since it's in the just for laughs forum, but the subject isn't very funny at the moment.

Now that made me laugh, I remember the Prednigoatee. I had a great one. How about the PredniJethro - the Jethro (from Beverly Hillbilies) size lunch you use to pack everyday.
