Donate your colon to science?

I was asked March 2 when I had my colon removed, "Would you like to donate your colon to science?" I said, "NO. I want that baby stuffed and mounted and placed on my mantle!"

What a nice Christmas decoration! It makes a great conversation piece!

My GP told me this true story-

When he was in med school one of his classmates had her colon removed, so a bunch of them went to the butcher and got a cow's colon. They hung it on her front porch along with a "welcome home" sign the day she came home from the hospital. It was all very sweet, except she was still so hopped up on painkillers that she didn't couldn't figure out that it wasn't actually HER colon. They let her go for months thinking that they had talked the surgeon into giving it to them. Cool

That sounds like a great idea to me. If they could learn from it and help others from their gained knowledge, that's great. If they still had it lying around too, I'd ask them to reinstall it. Cool

I did ask the Doc on my last visit if he still had my colon lying around cause I want it back! He said it's gone now. Finally sold it the day before I came in. Just my luck huh!

When I had my surgery in 1992 I asked if I could have mine to donate to my high school and they told me I couldn't. I really wish I could've done that. Glad to hear that others have that option.

when I woke up from the original surgery I remember screaming, in really bad language, at the nurse to give me my colon back RIGHT NOW, I changed my mind about the surgery. I apparently couldn't be talked down and she finally told me they already took it to the dump.
I remember being really mad because just before I nodded off into anesthesia I had told the doctor to save it for me in a jar. I guess it would have needed to be a big jar.

I gladly would have donated it, too, once I came to my senses!

I can't believe the story about the cow colon.. sounds hilarious(and stinky..
