Can I take Phenergan or something? This is basically a blockage. Horrible pain. I have Phenergan and Loratab. Which one can I take? HELP. And pray please.

Liz,
Just prayed for you - for the twist to straighten and/or any adhesions to bust loose. I would take the Lortab, if I were you. It's for the pain, and will also slow down peristalsis which should bring some relief to the cyclical pain. Hopefully it will relax things enough to straighten them out. If you throw up, please remember to get to the ER. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |

Okay. Good to know. I am driving 3 hrs to see my surgeon (who knows I'm coming). I'll prob have to have the surgery to tack it down, but in the meantime nice to know I can take these things. Off I go!
Thanks all! Liz UC-Diagnosed 1998 3 Step J-pouch-May, Oct. and Dec. 2005 Diagnosed w/ Crohn's in Sept. 2006 |

Phenergan is for nausea, so I would take it if I was feeling sick. It depends on how much pain you are in to take the Lortab. I know myself when I am feeling really nausiated that I vomit pain pills.

Both the lortab and the phenergine can make you sleepy.....please tell me your not driving yourself?

Agree with Lori; both of those knock me out so please make sure someone is driving you. Not to mention being in extreme pain makes driving difficult.
I hope you get relief and the blockage clears. I too am praying for you right now. "...all things work together for the good of those that love Him..." Romans 8:28 |

Early on after my takedown I had my small intestine twist on itself. The pain was excrutiation. How are you tolerating it? I couldn't. I went to the ER and spent the next 6 days in the hospital while my surgeon contemplated surgery to take care of the problem. He continued to delay it....Thank God! Eventually, the kink straightened out. I was on heavy pain meds the entire time. Even in childbirth, I don't remember such a terrible pain. Best wishes!

Hey guys,
Well, I'm back from my night in the hospital. My cousin drove me and we met my mom half way to Nashville and she drove the rest of the way. Luckily I had not eaten much so the pain wasn't as bad as it was when this happened before. I took half a Phenergan on the drive down, and I swear that's what got me through it b/c I had to wait like 2 hours in the ER. They would not page my surgeon for anything, even though my instructions were to "go to the ER and have them page me when you arrive". By the time I'd been admitted, he'd already left. But, he got one of his fellows to take care of me and she was wonderful. They got the pouch untwisted and I felt immediately better. After that the pouch started spasming which really hurt so they injected my anus with numbing agent. PS. a needle there REALLY not comfy! Anyway, I'm okay now. I'm home. My surgeon is going to call me Monday to discuss this surgery to tack the pouch in place. I think it will help with stuff a lot, but I am obviously not looking forward to being cut open again. He said they would go through my old stoma scar but I think that one needs to be left alone. I know I have the most scar tissue there and sometimes it kinda feels like there are adhesions there, so I don't wanna make those worse. Anyway! Just wanted to let you know I'm okay. I had a minor meltdown in the ER last night after all the poking and prodding...Just kinda gets to you after 10 years when you've basically never had more than a few months of peace. Sigh. Oh well, chin up! Thanks for the posts, guys. I appreciate it. Liz UC-Diagnosed 1998 3 Step J-pouch-May, Oct. and Dec. 2005 Diagnosed w/ Crohn's in Sept. 2006 |

Good to hear that the problem is going to be taken care of Lizz. I get an obstructed bowel once in a while and is painful. There are no colerectals where I live, so if surgery needed to be done I would have to be ambulanced to Cleveland Clinic. Lucky for me all I needed so far was IV fluids, zofran, and dilaudid. It is nerve racking after a while.
