My doc just told me that he thinks i have some diverticulum. I am not sure what this is and if it is something that can be fixed or not If anyone can help me out. Im in a bit of a down mood because I dont want to go through any of this anymore. And i just started a new job and this always seems to happen when im doing well.

In your pouch?
A diverticulum is basically a hernia. The wall of the intestine is weakened and the inner lining bulges out like a bubble. This is most common in the colon, but can occur anywhere in the GI tract. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/ Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

Thanks Jan, I will take a look at the sight. Is this anything to be too worried about?

I suppose you can worry all you want, but I don't think it is anything like a time bomb or something to call in the A-Team for. But seriously, it's just something out of the ordinary that they will take a look at. It may or may not cause you symptoms, and may or may not be of any concern.

I had 2 for almost a year and never ever knew it till my last operation. Dr decided to fix it while they were in there! Good luck, agree with Jan and good luck!

Thank you both for the advice. I am really hoping that it is something that my doc can fix very quickly so I can get back to life.

You'll know if they are causing you problems enough to warrent doing something about them.
The problem typically comes when food gets lodged in those pockets and then infection sets in. I'm not sure of the exact reason as to why lodged food can cause infection, but that is a risk. If infection sets in you will know it by the symptoms. My coloned sister has diverticulitis and totally avoids nuts because they always cause her problems. She is miserable while having symptoms and requires antibiotics to start to feel better. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |
