Hi -

I had my first obstruction over the weekend - spent two nights in the hospital, vomiting, but no NG tube (thank god). During this time, my stomach was extremely distended - about four times what it normally is.

Well, all that is seemingly better now, but I am fairly certain that I am dehydrated, so have been sucking down liquids non-stop. Here's my question:

Do joint issues occur because of dehydration?

My thumbs have been getting "stuck out" for no apparent reason. Doesn't hurt - but is really freaking me out. Am wondering if I should call my surgeon, or just keep drinking liquids and hopefully this resolves itself.

Also, to tag on to this: I went three days on no food, just liquids, and have been working breads and chicken back into my diet. Output is fairly inconsistent, which concerns me a bit, as before if I ate something, it was back out in the bag within 30 minutes. Not the case now. Maybe because I'm not eating that much and my body is hanging on to anything because it's starving?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any advice.

Lisa

I don't think i can speak to the joint issues. I could see having some stiffness especially if you were stressed and tense.
As for the diet. For me I had to switch from liquids to thicker liquids like yogurt, ice cream, and then work my way up to cottage cheese and saltines before I could introduce breads and meats.
good luck.

I had terrible charlie horses in my calfs when I was dehydrated and yes it was also joint flu like aches. You may need an IV to hydrate if it has gotten to that point. Check with your dr. Good luck.

Hi Lisa,

I get terrible night cramps in my legs whenever I'm dehydrated as well as general aches and pains.

There are other reasons for those painful cramps which can include vitimin B12 deficiency. Have you had your levels checked recently?

Hope you get some relief soon.

Take care Smiler
