Hi everyone, I just had my takedown surgery on Tuesday, March 11. I'm just curious to find out how long it usually takes before I will have my first bowel movement or gas. The docs say I can drink something once I pass something so I am kind of anxious to do so. If anyone could let me know how long it was for them before they passed something I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

My son had his first movement within 2 days after TD. Good luck.

It typically takes 1 or 2 days for the patient to first pass gas after TD.
Ask if you can chew gum -- some research shows that reduces the time significantly. |

1-2 is average, but some people do have a bowel that doesn't want to wake up as soon.
Also, pain meds (while necessary) will slow things down and make the wakeup take longer. Try the gum and a lot of walking, if you can. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |

Thanks to everyone that answered my question for me. Just wanted to let you all know that my bowels did wake up today (day 2 after takedown). Such a relief. Thanks again!
