I had step-1 of my surgery 12/20/07 and step-2 2/6/08. My hair is STILL falling out like crazy! I have been loosing my hair for about 6 months now and it seems like I barely have any left. My doc says it is just from being sick and the surgery and there is nothing I can do. Is there an end in sight? Any suggestions?

Hi. I was very sick before my colectomy in August 07. I lost tons of hair due to malnutrition. I don't think my hair stopped falling out until about 4 months after surgery. I wore my hair pinned up for over a year. Now it is about 10 months after surgery, and I've been able, finally, to wear my hair down, instead of pinned up. It's about 90% regrown. Your protein levels need to be normal for a while for your hair to start growing. IT WILL GROW. I know how upsetting it is, tho.

Hi Desi,
A couple of ideas, 1) you need to absorb animal protien at least twice a day (fish doesn't count, nor eggs) to stimulate regrowth 2) head and shoulders shampoo contains zinc and helps to stop the fall out or at least slow it significantly 3) multi vits doen't hurt either but yes, the surgical shock coupled with the illness will do it every time (add all of the drugs etc and you have a very toxic mix for your system) I have lost most of mine 4 times in one year and it is just growing back in now...just eat well, losts of red meat once you can and use H&S and you will soon see the change Sharon |
