Dear Jan;
I am asking you for input as you have helpped me so much in the past.

I am back from cleveland clinic 3+ weeks,had my second take down ,needed because orig pouch failed.

Jan i have had diarrhea almost all the time since comming home ,had it at the hospital also.I took imodium loperamide and lomatil also metamusal waffers ,than got a blockage ,so stopped eating and drank alot of water and it broke loose.Now i am back to diarrhea.
urgency is every few minutes after eating and cramping ,which allowes me (no) sleep .
I am at my wits end and need your input.
I am concerned as this is how it was after my first takedown,but at that time it never ended ,and went on for eight months and i lost over 60 lbs.I pray this time will be different.Jan sorry so long but wanted to expllain so you could advise me.
I have a dr appt dec 12,was earliest avail (military)unless emergency.Thanks again,Gary

As you probably know, diarrhea is common in the early adaptation period, but I can see how you may be a bit apprehensive, knowing your history.

Sometimes you can't expect a quick turnaround, but you should expect at least a level of tolerance. The trick is to find just the right medications that slow things down enough that you have a few hours sleep, but not so much that you are obstructing. So, it is probably time to start adding loperamide until you are at maximum. If that fails, try lomotil. Just don't make big changes over a short period of time, keeping in mind it takes several days for the Imodium to build up to the effective level. You may need antispasmotics too to keep the cramping down. You know the diet routine, take it slow and simple and gradually add more variety to your diet. When you restrict your diet, focus on calorie dense foods so you get the most bang for your buck. Small, frequent meals, etc.

If you are finding you cannot keep up with the fluids and do not urinate over a period of more than six hours, you may need to go to the ER for fluid replacement.

Good luck.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Gary,
My diarrhea subsided when i started eating broths with well cooked rice and thinly sliced carrots and made it quite salty too. All you neeed to do is boil rice with soem carrots..one or two in salty water adding vegetable or chicken stock cubes. Its binding so dont eat lots and lots of it but it does stop the flow and unlikely to cause a blockage if rice is cooked well.

Love your bumSmiler
