hi everyone, just wondering if its normal to see any blood post takedown (which was nov 5th). its not much, just a bit on the tissue and tonight i spotted some in the toilet bowl. is this normal? i thought i should be rid of all the inflamation now (no rectum or colon) so dont know what could it be. i have been going to the toilet a lot (as per usual after TD) and also have a feeling that i may have hemmoroids just inside my anus where it can be quite itchy sometimes. does anyone know what this could be? just a bit worried at the sight of blood! tx..d

If you have retained rectal mucosa, UC can return to this tissue and bleed. Often this does not occur until after takedown. If it was just on the tissue, I'd be inclined to assume it was anal irritation, but blood in the bowl sounds more like active bleeding from the mucosa. This is easily treated with mesalamine or hydrocortisone suppositories if it becomes too problematic. Docs often will have a wait and see approach to this to see if it resolves on its own.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
