Had my second step of 3 steps on June 3rd (3 weeks today). I was absolutely fine until 3 days ago when all of a sudden this huge wave of nausea hit me like a ton of bricks (and still remains today).
I'm having no relief from Zofran or Phenergan. Besides the nausea, I am soooo weak and tired that I can't even go up and down my stairs let alone take small walks. I'm having to empty my bag almost every half hour so I'm thinking I'm probably just dehydrated. But no matter how much Gatorade (which I hate) I drink, the nausea still remains. Is it possible that something else is going on like a blockage? a hernia? pouchitis? I do not have a fever but a small portion of my incision remains open (7.5cm deep) and my bladder feels somewhat "sensitive". I am so uncomfortable. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! |

Hi Sindi:
Do you have any pain in your abdomen? I had similar symptoms that you have before my take down and i believe it was related to a blockage (or a partial blockage) which made my output watery and quickly dehydrated me. I think a call to the dr. is required whatever the cause. Hope you feel better soon. Mike |

Hi Sindi,
That happened to me in the 2nd stage of my 2 stage procedure. In my case it was not a blockage but I was severely dehydrated and was also not eating at the time. Ring the doc- don't wait. They need to establish what it is. I was given Cyclosine which was the only thing that eventually brought the nausea under control and enabled me to start eating so that I could get stronger. Good luck - don't despair -it takes a little while but you will get there. Annemarie Annemarie |

Are you on any pain meds? Opiates can make you feel nauseous and dozy. Cyclazine or any other anti-emetic should resolve the nausea.
I find the powders more effective than isotonic drinks. Give you doctor a call and find out what the underlying cause is, we can merely speculate. Please let us know how you are getting on. Being dehydrated can definitely make you feel nauseous. (Blood pressure drops/ heart palpitations can occur too)
Sometimes no matter how much you drink you can not replace what has been lost. You might need to contact your doc and get some IV fluids. Gatorade, like mentioned above is sugary which can make diarrhea worse. Hydralyte/Gookinaid are names I remember seeing before that people use. Feel better! Thanks for all your responses. I do feel slightly better today and was able to sleep through the nite. I do not have any pain in my abdomen. As a matter of fact, I haven't taken any pain meds in days. I've been drinking Gatorade's new drink G2 - which has very little sugar (7gms), but Cranberry Light juice seems to help more maybe due to the acidity content. I'm going to ask my Doc for Cyclazine (sp?)
