with having a J pouch and by not having a large intestine, would this effect my abilities to break alcohol down? does it slow down the absorbtion rate?

No You wil still absorb it as it is absorbed in the stomach not the ileum. You might want to make sure you drink more water when you're drinking alcohol though because you are more at risk of becoming dehydrated. Also beer and fizzy drinks like alcopops and champagne may cause more gas and alcohol can cause an increase in output in some people.
One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Joshua,
Alcohol is synthesized (or broken down) in your liver, not your colon. Your blood alcohol content and its' consequences should be the same with a colon and with no colon. One difference you may want to consider is that alcohol will speed up your transit time of the small intestine and you won't have a colon to "back it up," so you may have higher frequency when drinking alcohol without a colon. And as Shell mentioned you will also want to be more careful that you do not get dehydrated. Rick ---------------------------------- KAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOM!! |
