I am on my 4th day of watery diarrhea. I had a fever on Wednesday night when the diarrhea started. The fever was gone by the next morning but the diarrhea was in full force. I have been going on average once an hour ever since. I gave a stool sample on Friday, but results won't be back until next week I am guessing. My local doctor put me on IV for the last two days since I was dehydrated. I can't put enough fluids down to keep up with the fluid loss...the fluids run through me so quick. I went on Cypro and Flagyl last night and promptly thru up...I ate some clear broth before the pills...but probably wasn't solid enough to count as food. I took some Cypro this morning with a couple pieces of toast and tolerated it. I am starting to get a little weak. My diet has been mostly liquid since I cramp up when I eat food. I am trying to find my surgeon, but that won't help until next week. Anyone have any ideas on what to eat, anything I have missed, a noose, etc?

Oh boy - not a nice thing to go through. The clear broth doesn't feel like food, but you were wise to drink it. If you can keep it down, go for it. You really need the salt. The more salt your body loses, the more watery your stool will be. So keep at it. Maybe you can put some noodles in it? Just don't use long stuff like spaghetti if you're at risk of puking; if you haven't chewed well, long threads are scary if you start throwing up. I was advised to keep eating no matter how much I threw up, as you'll manage to get some nutrients out of the food, even if it does shoot through or up really fast. If you're nauseous, bananas are a good bet as they taste more or less the same coming up as they did going down. And if you're weak, throwing up can be spooky as you can feel like you're choking if you're so weak you can't expel the food. Bananas are slippery, so you don't have that worry! Ok, sorry about that gross info, but it was a life-saver for me when I had the Flagyl/Cipro ****tail and awful diarreah in combo. You can also try making a kind of watery otmeal porridge. Just use more water than usual; the extra fluid is good, the oats bind, and the combination of salt and sugar in the mix all helps. Again, one of my favourites when the diarreah got very bad. Hang in there!!

Usually, when these things happen, I just take it in stride and hope I'll lose weight.

But, no, really- I've found theres nothing you can do but keep drinking and wait it out.

Sounds like a Norovirus or food poisoning, and basically you just have to wait it out and keep up with your fluids. The good news is that it should last less than a week.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Good news, after 5 days it broke...I am about 10 pounds lighter, which for me isn't good, but it sure is nice to be back in good working form. Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey Dustin, Glad you're feeling better! Must've just been a bug or something, I guess it's that time of year. It's certainly been getting colder here for the past week or so. -15. Brrr. Lol. I guess now you have a good excuse to eat lots for the next little bit, with Christmas coming up that can't be a bad thing Smiler

I'll walk this winding road into the great unknown.
