I'm really at my wits end, and hope that someone can help me figure out why I would have constant butt burn.

I had a scope almost two weeks ago and the doctor told me that my pouch looked "very, very good", although I can't understand why I don't feel "as good as I look". He said the only problem was that I had an anastomosis that he stretched out (was under anesthesia thank goodness) and felt that it was the reason that I was having the problems that I've been having.

I'm on 1000 mg of Cipro for suspected pouchitis....take 1 Culturelle and 1 PB8 daily, & 8 lomotil, however, I still have constant butt burn - sometimes so painful that I can't touch it to wipe and it bleeds when it's that sore. Now I seem to be having gas and afternoon leakage. I seem to be worse since I had this procedure done.

My doctor suggested that I take Florastor, which I did get. I'm taking so much stuff now, don't know what to use and what not to use.

I should be buying stocks for Calmoseptine - I use enough for an army with no relief.....help, does anyone have any suggestion? Going out of town next week on a vacation and am dreading being away from home.

Sounds like you have anal irritation or even a fissure. Maybe a little too vigorous dilation caused some trauma. What I am wondering is why are you on a high dose of Cipro for suspected pouchitis, when a scope indicated that it looked very good in there? Seems contradictory to me. I would suggest also that perhaps you have a yeast infection from all those antibiotics. Probiotics can help, but probably not while you are still taking antibiotics. Maybe some topical antifungal cream or even oral antifungal, such as Diflucan can get this turned around for you.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Thanks for the advice,Jan.

Don't know why he's keeping me on Cikpro....I asked him if I should continue thinking that he'd tell me to stop, but he said to continue on. Think I'll be giving him a call today to tell him what's going on.

Ilex is the best because it keeps working till you wash it off. I put it on when I have BB problems, and sometimes use Nupercainal on top if I have some soreness, and then sometimes Calmoseptine. Sometimes I use all three! The Ilex actually forms a barrier though that's virtually rub proof.

You can click the link at the top of the page, or try ordering it from your pharmacy.

I hope you feel better soon...Lori

If you are not already, try to take as many warm showers with direct contact or sits baths, as possible. It will burn initially but will get better, the longer the better. Also, try not to use soap all the time, soap will make the situation worse, just wipe with a soft cloth. It isn't convenient if your not at home often, but make use of your days off and weekends to take 3 or 4 a day if possible. It will help give some relief. Hang in there.

I too get bad butt burn and when I saw my GI doc he told me to take metamucil (tabs, wafers, drink, whatever...) and then he gave me mesalamine suppositories to help with some mild inflammation (2 a day for 3 weeks and then 1 a day until it got better). Now I don't use the suppositories unless I feel like the burn is coming on again. I had cuffitis but very mild and this combination along with the immodium and probiotic seemed to help me. It seems like, when it's bad, no cream in the world can help but I just purchased the ILEX and have found it to be more soothing than others I have tried. Hope this info. helps. Give your doc a call before you go out of town and make sure you have all your supplies with you. I went on a 10 day vacation while I was going through a bad time but somehow just being away, really helped. I know that sounds weird but my focus was on rest and relaxation and it, while I still had some problems, it didn't seem quite as bad. Hopefully, you are going some place wonderful. Hang in there.

I would install a handheld bidet on your toilet and use it whenever you use the bathroom at home. Saves you from having to jump in the shower after every bm.

Maybe try something to control stomach acid. My worst BB is after orange juice, which I love!

Hi Mema, sorry that you are suffering so. My daughter had what we thought was the worst butt burn and it turned out to be a yeast infection. It was just not going away with the normal 'butt burn creams'. A dose of diflucan and some antifungal powder and it she was relieved within a couple of days. I see that Jan mentioned it also. It is worth a try. Make sure you are not taking the probiotics within 2 hours of the antibiotics. You also may need more than one dose of the diflucan since you are still on antibiotics but I believe it was the powder that worked for my daughter. It was a prescription.

Thanks Stell, just got home from vacation and found your message. I think that I wrote in another thread that I realized that it was not "the normal butt burn" and told my doctor that I thought I had a yeast infection. He gave me diflucan. You are right, it just didn't take one dose, and still had it in the beginning of last week until I took another one. I just wasn't sure how many I could take, and decided to hold it to two. I couldn't decide which was worse, the vaginal infection or the anal one!!! Amazing what the right meds can do for you.

So, thanks to you and to Jan Dollar the my bleeding and irritation has passed and I am feeling oh so much better! Big Grin

Hi Mema!

My husband has some issues with butt burn -- but it's not nearly as bad as it was when he first had his surgeries.

A friend's sister told us that, after more than 10 years with a pouch, she still has it... bad.

In any case, how my husband's battled it is: wipe well & carefully; use water to cleanse the area (he does sits baths often, or wet toilet paper -- you need to get the stuff that doesn't disintigrate when you use it). Then pat the area dry. After that, he uses the hair dryer (ours now stays plugged in at all times) and on a cool setting blow dries the area. Then apply Balmex Daily care (it's clear!).

This has helped immensely. The Balmex is less expensive than the heavy-duty stuff they give you at pharmacies and works just as well.

Hi Sahmlomano, Thanks so much for your response. It seems that the cause of the butt burn was definitely a yeast infection. Once I started the meds, it disappeared within days. It seems to be coming back, however, as I am still on antibiotics - it just seems to be going round and round. I do appreciate your input though, and will take your suggestions if the need arises. Where do you get Balmex Daily, never heard of it. I usually use Calmoseptine although nothing seems to help when I'm as bad as I was a few weeks ago. Eeker

Mema,

After my 3rd stage surgery I used Calmoseptine and thought it worked pretty well on my irritation but its effectiveness decreased. I now use Nupercainal, which is expensive but great for soothing the burn I get from my 10-20 bathroom trips a day. It's active ingredient is Dubocain (sp). I know the frustration of this level of irritation. It has almost brought me to tears on occasion. I hope you find some relief.

Unfortunately it is with me....but, I really don't thing that I'm with the majority of people. I have it again as a matter of fact, and now I'm not sure if it's a yeast infection again, or just because I had an ice cream cone. The worst part of it is the bleeding from cracks around the anus....I've always gotten frightened when I see blood, even though I know where it's coming from.
