Sounds like you might have an anal stricture (narrowing). In addition to incomplete pouch emptying, the full pouch can often lead to pouchitis with all the bacteria buildup.
Alternatively, if the Cipro doesnt work, then it could be Cuffitis? But since you are straining with little coming out, it sounds like a stricture to me. I would make an appointment with your surgeon/GI. If it is a stricture, it can easily be fixed.
Good Luck!

Hi Marie, I agree with Keith, it's time to call for a scope. If it is a stricute, you may need to be dilated. If it is cuffitis, you would need some rowasa or canasa suppositories. In the meantime, try changing your diet to foods that will pass through easy. Maybe try some grapejuice. I would try to eat more soups, cooked vegetables, easy to digest foods.
Hope you feel better,
janna

Hey, Thanks so much you guys. I made the post then left to do some email and went back and you were there. It's great to have people who care enough to answer your questions. I will call my GI tomorrow. I agree with what you two said. Thats what it feels like. Again thanks. Marie

Hi, My wife is 8 months post op and has had similar symptoms she went to the see her surgeon last week and he said it was not a striture after a digital exam, and not cuffitis or pouhitis since she did not respond to the Cipro, since the cipro did not help....he thought it might be IBD and perscribed Levsinex....he thought this might cut down on her having to wait a long time on the bowl to deficate...she has not started it yet....Jules Bender
