Hi
This is the first time I am posting. I had my Jpouch surgery 9 years ago. Aside from some hospitalizations due to blockages, all is well--thank God.
Recently though, I have noticed that the skin around my rectum feels like it is scratched/cracked/broken? Is this something to worry about? I have also noticed that I have some leakage. Doesnt leakage usually occur only after surgery? Could this be related? Does this sound symtomatic of anything? Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the family. Smiler

You don't say whether you have any pain with the irritated skin. Does it seem to go up inside your anus or is it just on the outside skin area?

The reason I ask is that if the crack is on the inside and is very painful (especially when emptying your j-pouch) then it could indicate a fissure. If this is the case then hot soaks in the tub and a regime of Nitroglycerine ointment and Xylocaine cream may help to heal it.

If however it is just superficial skin irritation perhaps a cortisone cream (1%) might help to calm things down.

I'm sure others will be along also to offer ideas/advice but I would urge that you see your doctor to get a proper diagnosis and to put your mind at rest.

Good luck and keep us posted.

It's possible that the leakage you are experiencing is breaking down your skin. What kind of ointments are you using to help heal the area?
You might want to try some imodium to see if that helps the leakage if it's liquidy. This should also help your skin. Smiler

Thanks for the responses. (I changed my screenname to shk2j:-))

The "crack" feels like it starts from my anus going back towards the middle of my "bum." I have noticed some light spots of blood when I wipe at times. It does feel a bit irritated at times, more like the pain you feel when something is healing and you disturb the process. Right now, I have not started using anything---I was planning on picking up some anusol.
As for leakage, this is very new for me. I have just noticed when I use the bathroom, that I have stains on my underwear. I'm a super clean person and regularly use water after every time I use the bathroom (bidet), so I know this isnt a hygiene issue and something must be leaking. I also have noticed that when I'm just doing my normal daily activities lately, I feel a tingly sensation from my rectum.

I hate "bothering" the surgeon if it isnt a big deal. I'll definately try one of the ointments you both have suggested.

Thanks for your time---I really appreciate it. Please let me know if you have anything else to add:-)

Take care.
