Hello All--

I have had my pouch for just over two years, but within the last few weeks I have been experiencing some strange pains. Nothing that has been debilitating, but I am concerned enough that I have an appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday.

It started a few weeks ago feeling like I had a lump inside my bottom, to the left of my rectum but on the inside. I could not feel the lump from the outside, but it felt (internally) like I had a marble in there.

Then it changed to almost feeling like shards of glass in the same exact place. Not at any specific time, but just like some sharp little things poking into me internally.

During the night last night, I went to the bathroom and noticed that my bottom hurt FROM THE OUTSIDE when I wiped, in exactly the same place as I have been having these weird pains. It has been aching ever since, and whenever I go to the bathroom and wipe it is painful to the touch. Not crazy pain, but quite uncomfortable.

Has anyone every experienced anything like this? I would appreciate any insight you might have.

Thanks,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I hate to say this but it sounds as though you have a perianal abscess. These are very painful and sometimes will erupt on their own but some need draining surgically so it's as well that you are seeing your surgeon next week.

If you start to spike a fever, feel unwell or the pain gets worse then ring your surgeon to see if he can bring your appointment closer.

In the meantime, hot soaks in the bath are really soothing as is sitting on a heating pad.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Shell--

Thanks so much for your response. I called the surgeon's office and their take on it agrees with yours. They prescribed me Cipro (which I started tonight) and am I going to try to hold out until my appointment next week unless it gets worse.

Thanks,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I'm so glad that you have been back in touch with your surgeon's office. Hopefully the antibiotics will keep this from getting any worse until you see your surgeon next week.

Good luck and take care.

Nicole-
I have never experienced what you are going through now, but I hope you feel better soon.
I can only imagine how anxious you must feel knowing something is not "right."
Best wishes. I hope that your pain goes away soon.
