Dialation

I had my Takedown Nov 15 and things have been okay. I have a narrowed rectal area according to my surgeon and he did an office dialation last Wednesday. I have elected to have a sedated dialation on Friday. My problem is control issues and not emptying my pouch. I have to go again soon as I leave the bathroom and I have urges almost constantly. I guess I can't imagine dialation working. I'm afraid it will make me less continue if I'm dialed Alot. If anyone has experience with this I would love to here your thoughts. thanks!

Jeremy,

I am in the same situation as you are and going for my third dilation (this time under anesthesia) in Jan. I can let you know my outcome if you are interested. I understand this can me a mixed bag where sometimes you have success and other times not. I too suffer from repeated passes at one sitting to empty my pouch which is also cause severe rectal irritation and cuffitis, but incontinence is not an issue for me. I do however, also suffer from the pressure and urge to empty my pouch frequently.

Let me know how you make out on Friday. Good luck.

guys. i have dealt with strictures and scar tissue for years. this past tuesday i had a laser vaporization of scar tissue with a co2 laser and have had nothing but problems. i cant pass a proper movement and always feel unevacuated. but this is not much different from bouts i have had for years. i have not had dialiation persay but have had dialation while under for a sigmoid. I would recommened one thing that i could not live without. Get a bidet. wiping is brutal on someone who goes all day. i never have to wipe anymore and my skin thanks me for it everyday. u can get a cheap one for 50 bucks (cold water) or a nice one for a couple hundred (warm water with dryer),,if you guys find any relief for strictures and a narrow pouch, let me know. so far i have no good outcomes, even with a laser zapping of the scar tissue.good luck

I have had to have dilations for the past year now. I just do the quick in office visit. I can say it's finally starting to get better now after a year. At first I was going every 6 weeks for the dilation and then it's been every 3 months. I have one next week and I am hoping it's the last.

mgmt..any reason you have not gone under sedation for these? The last one hurt me badly so I am glad I am having it under sedation in Jan and the surgeon also indicated he may cut away some of the scar tissue which makes me a bit nervous. I am going to talk to him about it before the procedure. Glad you are having luck. I find the stricture has also caused me a lot of rectal discomfort from the constant passage of stool when trying to empty. I hope this pain resolves after the stricture is hopefully corrected.

Hi,
I'm new here. I was diagnosed with FAP and had my colectomy and j pouch surgery in July and takedown in Sept. Things were good for about two months and then I started getting plugged up. I went to the VA a week and a half ago and had a dilation and was given a cervical dilator to use twice a day for the next month. It's taken some getting use to, but this has helped immensely.
I hope this helps you.
