My husbands takedown was at the end of March but now is experiencing burning and itching just inside the rectum. He doesn't always feel like he is emptying all the way and his last stools were a little bloody. Also feels pain where the ostomy was. Are these normal at first or should he be concerned?

Could be the normal recovery stuff. Make sure the surgeon is aware of these things. He probably should not be bleeding at this point and he could have cuffitis that needs to be treated.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

The itching and burning can just about drive you crazy. I use Calmoseptine everytime I empty. I just bought Ilex, but haven't tried it yet. When the burning gets really bad, I usually need 2 vicoden and a xanax. Sounds pretty heavy duty, I know, but I have a very high pain med tolence. Hope he starts to feel better soon.

Have a fabulous day!

I have come to believe if the doctors look hard enough, they will find something wrong somewhere!

I talked to the surgeon and he prescribed Anucort suppository. Hopefully that will help. Oxycodone helps alot too. Helps him sleep better.
