Hey Yall,

I posted a few days ago for the first time and got a good response, so.....here goes again. I have been home from TD for 9 days. The first few were OK, but for the last several I have had some intense pain in my anus. It feels like pooping razor blades sometimes when I go. I thought maybe i was developing hemhorids so I got some Prep.H after speaking with the doctor's office. This has helped very little and I am thinking now this is just the dreaded Butt Burn everyone talks about. I dont have much problem on the outside however, it feels like all the pain is inside. Did anyone experience this after TD and how long did it last for? I am using some other cream they gave me in the hospital, which is similar to Calmoseptine, just a different brand. Anyhoo, any feedback is always appreciated. Thanks!

Hi again Tahoe, I have the same problem. It seems to happen if I am having too many loose BM's. If you try some metamucil wafers or start eating the diet that will slow things down it may help. It seems to help me. Pasta, Bananna'a oatmeal, pretzels and the almighty bagel.I have eaten more bagels in the last 3 months than I have eaten in my life. They seem to be like a big plug! Eeker
Too many Bms seem to afect the cuff, the Dr. gave me some Proctofoam HC which seems to help also. This is applied directly to the cuff area.
Hope I was of some help, feel better! Craig

Oh, I remember that feeling all to well and it has been 3 years! Yes, some people get this terrible internal burn, especially at first. The only thing that helped me was a sitz bath. You can buy one at your local discount drug store. Just fill with warm water, put it on your toilet and soak your sore tush for a few minutes. Then gently pat dry.
I would do this after every bm and anytime during the day that I felt sore.
It will pass. It just takes some time. Hang in there.

A couple of things to look at:

Pooping razor blades could be fissures so have your doctor take a look.

Get checked for a yeast infection - again, a doctor visit.

Order Ilex since it won't let ANYTHING through to tender skin. Click on the icon at the top of this page. Nupercainal is also very good - it's OTC and near to Preparation H.

Start keeping a food journal to see if any foods are causing problems - and almost any food could be a culprit so you'll have to be diligent. Some offenders are caffeine, fruit juices, wheat products, sugar, sodas, eggs, tomato products and many more.

Are you taking imodium or lomotil? If not, give your doctor a call and see if it's okay to do so. Lomotil is by prescription only. Also, ask if it's okay to start metamucil wafers - they really help me with butt burn.

I agree with Craig, bagels are great. Rice works well too.

Good luck, and it DOES get better.

Hi Aaaron,

I'm with Kathy here, your symptoms sound like fissures to me. You do need to go to the doctor with this and to be checked for other causes such as yeast infections etc. I suffered with recurring fissures for most of the 8 years that I had my j-pouch and what worked for me was nitroglycerine ointment (which you need to get a prescription from your doctor for) some numbing cream like Xylocain or Hurricain gel and plenty of hot baths or sitz baths.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Take care Smiler

Aaron - I had the exact problem after takedown and it was fissures. Once that was taken care of, I was much better. And you are right by describing that it feels like glass. I remember explaining it just like that.
Keep us posted - I hope you get well soon.
