Remicade was working SO WELL too!! Looks like I have developed antibodies. Seemed to be making it every 2 months between treatments, but it's been 4 weeks and I am starting to hurt lower pretty constantly. BM's have not increased much so I am kinda split on whether it's pouchitis or not. Feeling pretty crummy overall.
We did discover that I did have Chrohns afterall after colon removal (whether I always had it, or if it's new is anyones guess) SO, my question. I have a lot of knowledge on Colitis but am kinda lost on Crohns. How would they treat a flareup. Imuran will be months to take effect. Kinda scared to try the painful Humira shots, but maybe I am gonna have too. Am I looking at the "P" word. Prednisone. Gosh I hate that stuff. Can't say enough about Remicade. It was just wonderful while it worked. Gotta take that Benadryl before treatment though, worked like a charm. Thanks gang for any info. |

Well, you'd need antibiotics to treat pouchitis. I doubt your dr would put you on prednisone at this point so don't worry too much about that. In any case, entocort might suffice.
I also wouldn't worry about the Remicade effectiveness. I'm not sure there is really great evidence about it working for pouchitis anyway. Jan probably has the info for that. Definitely let your GI know whats going on. You might just need suppositories to begin with too. Good luck |

The natural progression once you develop antibodies to Remicade is Humira. Gee, if you can handle Crohn's of the pouch, I think you can handle the little sting of Humira injections!
I have been on Humira for 9 months and I have weekly injections instead of the usual every two week schedule (for my arthritis). It's no big deal for me. I'm the other way around, I cannot imagine going in for periodic IV infusions that take half a day. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
