When this all began--first with UC, then the ostomy--I was SO paranoid about what food I gave Thomas; I thought he must need some special diet and would never be able to eat normally again. But fortunately food of any type has never been a serious issue for him. I remember that raw carrots caused some discomfort when exiting the ostomy; and a whole bunch of peanuts shortly after his take-down caused some consequences in terms of frequency and gas. But having braces is the only thing that ever prohibited him from having popcorn; and the only ill effect of anything else is frequency or burn--never an obstruction. We also know he has TONS of adhesions; so I suppose he could have an obstruction any time--but so far there has never been a hint of one. Tiny little sesame seeds? He wouldn't even notice. The kid is now 6'2" and weighs over 200 lbs; believe me, he EATS. Anything.

I eat just about anything I want but I do take care not to eat too many nuts or raw veggies at one sitting. I got carried away one day eating trail mix and boy did it irritate me . Lets just say the nuts came out the way they went down. CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!!! My moto is everything in moderation and try new foods cautiously until you know they are okay for you.

I haven't had them since I got hooked back up, but when I had the ostomy they caused me some pain on the way out. I have been avoiding them since the takedown, but I want to give myself more time to heal internally before I send anything hard through there. I have had small amounts of softer "blockage" foods like mushrooms and I am good so far. Getting braver by the day...so when I disappear for a few weeks some day, I am probably in the hospital for eating something stupid LOL .

...or probably on a vacation having a great time and eating what you want! There really is nothing stupid you can eat, but you can eat in stupid ways (as in large quantities of unchewed roughage). Jan
Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I wouldn't worry unless you have symptoms of a blockage. I eat everything with my ostomy. The only time I have problems is if I eat large quantities of something (nuts, roughage etc) and don't chew well.

Just so everyone knows.... I am fine. I had a few small pains overnight, but nothing major.
