Hi-haven't posted for a long time. I was diagnosed with irritable pouch last spring at the Cleveland Clinic. Bo Shen was my Dr. Had both surgeries at Mayo Clinic in 2004. Eric Dozias was my surgeon. Just went to Cleveland for a second opinion. At Mayo they said pouchitis. Dr Shen said he saw no sign of pouchitis. He prescribed B & O suppositories. Used them for a time but the idea of Opium scares me. Since then I have been using Pepto & Metamucil powder(unflavored & unsweetened). I still have alot of stools after 2 1/2 yrs & alot of leakage. I have trouble emptying completely. Apparently the upper part of the pouch is holding stool. I do get some help using a rectal syringe. Don't like to use alot. Bo Shen said possibly I have yeast in my pouch. Didn't really give me any guidance there, but on my own I have been exploring the healing diet from a book by Dr. Richard Becker who has a tv call in show. He is a holistic doc/Osteopath. That diet is no starch, no sugar, basically fruits, vegies, meat, some dairy etc. Quite limited. Just wondered after such a long post if anyone has had similar problems. I have also looked into food combining from the book "PH Miracle." Someone posted awhile back about this & it does seem that the fewer items I eat at a time the better. There are herbs that can be used to rid the body of yeast. I think that that is a great part of my problem. I also have PSC. They did not tell me of course that often with PSC pouchitis is chronic. I have been on Cipro alot in the past & all of the other antibiotics but none at present. When I inquired on one of my visits to Mayo about a reversal they said that someone with PSC is not a good candidate for a reversal(going back to a colostomy). There are days that I wish for that old bag back. I have gone on alot but would appreciate any advise. This site has been a tremendous help to me. I thank God for it.
