I am having alot of problems with abdominal pain (probably adhesions). When I do go out for dinner/wine with friends I end up coming home distruaght. I am not sure if it is the rich food or wine. But later in the night i end up giving off really offence flatulence and have no control over it dispite frequent trips to bathroom to keep pouch empty.
Does anyone have any ideas other than straving myself before going out. |

I would really start looking at my diet. If you are having that much trouble with gas usually the foods you are eating are disagreeing with you.

Red wine is a problem for me (usually causing diarrhea) and although I do not know what rich foods you are eating in Ireland or whether it is "communal style" dining where everyone eats the same thing served in larger quantities, as opposed to individualized orders, perhaps you can try adjustments in your diet as suggested.
For the gas, I am sure you have Pepto Bismol in Ireland and I would try that. I had some very bad gas episodes last week and took 6 PB chewables and that nipped the problem right in the bud. DJBHusky UC - 1972 as a 9 year old Takedown 1992 Chronic Pouchitis Onset 1995 Still J Pouching 2012 |

Probiotics for your sensitive intestines (they don't like rich foods and wine causes diareah and gas in many people) and you may choose to pre-eat a meal before going out. I usually have a piece of chicken breast or some whole grain bread with something on it. It allows me to pick and choose carefully and eat less when out. No wine or alcohol on an empty stomach..really bad for you. You might want to try dissociating your foods and eating either only carbs or protiens and no fruits afterwards (they cause gas when eaten at the end of a meal)...and a food diary always helps...lets you know what you are doing right/wrong.
Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here.... |

Hi there,
I think that the problem may be the wine, I can eat or drink anything that I want apart from wine especially red, it goes straight through and comes out the other end the same as it went in, I stick to lager or spirits (or both) and dont have a problem. If im off out on the lash I make sure that I guzzle lots of loperamide through out the session but tend to avoid codiene as it tends to make me rather sleepy when washed down with gallons of ale...it doesnt do your street cred any good when your spotted in a club sleeping like a baby. Good luck!! torie |
