Hey everyone I am new to the site and am going to be having my first surgery pretty soon. I'm just wonering if anyone in here has had their surgery done at the U of Chicago or know of anyone with experience at this hospital. Any info would be really helpful. Thanks!

I had my surgery at Rush in Chicago, but a friend of mine had an emergency colectomy at U of Chicago about a year ago, and then just had the next step done a few weeks ago. She has nothing but wonderful things to say about the doctors there!

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way you could find out who did her surgery and who her doctors are? I would appreciate it so much. If you are willing to chat with me about your experience I would be very grateful as I don't know what to expect of my upcoming surgery. Let me know. Thanks!

I had my emergency colectomy surgery at UofC in August and am going in on January 14th for the 2nd step. Dr Hurst is my surgeon and he is one of the best. I am very pleased with him as a surgeon and if you need any info, feel free to contact me.

Hi Josh...

I just emailed you at the ostomy association website too. Dr. Hurst is my doctor I was going to have a j-pouch but it was discovered during the second step that I have Crohn's.

I would be more than happy to speak to you about the first step. I have 2 relatives who have j-pouches and they have had much success. 1 has had their's for 3 years and the other for 15 years.

I had my surgeries done at U of Chicago by Dr. Hurst (first step in July 2004 and second/third step combo in December 2005). I sent you a private message with my email if you want to ask me any questions.

Josh,

I had my surgery done at Lutheran General in Park Ridge. My surgeons were Dr's Prasad and Park. I spoke to 3 different Gastro's. One of which was a friend of mine. Without telling him who I was interviewing, he told me that Prasad and Park were far and away the best in the area. Followed by Stryker at Northwestern. All I can say is that my care by my surgeons team was nothing short of outstanding. If you would like more info, please let me know.

Josh,

I checked and my friend had Dr. Hurst as well. She's been in Florida since her second procedure, and I think is doing well.

I had my surgery with Dr. Sacriledes at Rush, and he's been great. I'm due to see him on Thursday to plan my takedown, I think! My experience with this entire process has been as ok as it can be. It's not fun, but necessary and the only thing I'm really struggling with right now is having the temp ileostomy. I'm really looking forward to getting rid of that! But, in the long run, it's not bad since for me getting colon cancer was the alternative!
